Information for parents, students and everyone else
Golden Valley Knight's Knews
Get it, knews = news. ;)
Reading
Currently, we are reviewing terms that students will see in their content classes. These include reading terms such as plot, theme, setting, objective, inferences, and narrative.
Writing
Currently, we are using all the knowledge we have used this year so far on various activities that ask students to write complete sentences and develop their writing with details.
- Listening and Speaking
We do these skills on a daily basis. It is mostly used in partner share where students get to work with a partner to understand or complete a task.
Important Notice:
Happy spring! I am finally back and really excited to try some new strategies and activities with my students. Currently, at Golden Valley, we are really excited about the recognition we have received from Schools to Watch. This is a huge honor, given by the state. For more information, you can click on the link in "sites and resources."
We are also starting a new program, English 3D, that was recommended by the district. We are changing due to the fact that this program has students discuss and collaborate more often with help from sentence frames and graphic organizers. If you have any questions about the program, feel free to email me. I also included a link that gives examples of the books we use.
There are so many exciting things, not just with Golden Valley, but with education as well. Some up and coming (as well as some old) terms being used are:
- Collaboration: working with someone to create an end product. Normally, each person in the group has a set role that helps the rest of the group to finish their product.
- Applied learning: focuses on how subjects can apply to real life, mainly in the workplace.
- Growth Mindset: Keeping the idea in our mind that we are continuing to grow. To know that we are not gonna know everything right away and being patient with ourselves that we will get there.

Town Hall Meetings
Our district is considering later start times for middle and high schoolers. A later start time would mean a later end time as well. To voice your opinion, the district set up Town Hall Meetings which are down below.
Currently, the district has a website (www.sbcusd.com/start) which allows people to ask questions. However, there is no official paperwork of what time they plan on having students leave school.
Town Hall Meetings are done meeting. However, surveys were sent out on Friday with the students and due by this Friday, May 25.
Schools to Watch Event
We were awarded a banner notifying everyone that we are a school to watch.
